  • To understand the Fundamental Principles of Vedic Astrology.

  • Each planet’s archetypal characteristics.
  • Indian Knowledge tradition which can generate livelihood as well as dharma.
  • One to one correspondence of Jyotişa-śāstra to the cosmos, hence for human’s well-being as well as for peaceful society.

Back ground of Jyotişaśāstra

  • Jyotişa Śāstra – A limb of Veda (vedānga) based on Yājuşa Jyotişa, Theory of Karma, Prārabdha & Puruşārtha (based on Śrīmadbhagvadgītā), Daśāvatāra (Ten incarnations) -based on Purāņas

Technical terms: Astrology, Jyotişa, Bhāratīya Jyotişa, Kuņđalī, Horoscope, kāla (Time), Types and methods of time calculation, Calendar, Standard Time, Greenwich Mean Time, Local Time, Sidereal Time, Latitude & Longitude, Ecliptic and Zodiac, Sunrise, Sunset, Dinmāna, Rātrimāna, Ayana, Orbit, Precession of equinoxes – Nirayaņa and Sāyaņa

Unit III:
Brief history of Jyotişaśāstra, Triskandha Jyotişa: Siddhānta, Samhitā and Horā. Praśna (Question), Śakuna (Omen), Vāstuśāstra, Sāmudrakśāstra, Relationship of Jyotişaśāstra with other śāstras. Qualities of Jyotişī/ Daivajňa (Brihatsamhitā)
